We know what you’re thinking, why are they reviewing a portable air compressor on a sporting equipment site? Well, this thing has saved us a few times already from the “Sports Sibling” sideline meltdown. No matter how many times we remind our daughter to make sure her tablet is charged before we head to the sports fields to watch her brother play, her tablet somehow always ends up at 10% battery shortly after we get there.
We originally bought this to keep in the car since our truck tire had a slow leak, and occasionally we would need to refill it. Using this when we got the low pressure notification was a lot quicker and easier then lugging the air compressor out every time, or finding a gas station with a pump that actually works. However, we have also used it to blow up pool floats, bike tires and a basketball or two, so it has come in pretty handy.
The pump itself comes with a variety of different attachments, a short USB-A to USB-C charging cord, and a small drawstring bag to keep everything together. The unit itself is pretty compact at 6in tall by about 4in wide and 2in deep, so it fits nicely inside the center console, and since it uses a USB cord to charge, we are able to keep it plugged in and charging any time the truck is running. With a 7500 mAh battery that outputs 2A, you can expect a full charge to charge 1-2 phones or tablets depending on their size and power requirements. Charging speed will be similar to most chargers found in a car, so it will keep the device running while in use, but it will probably have to remain plugged in for most of the time its in use. So far we have used it to add 5-7 psi into the truck tires, and then keep our daughter’s tablet running all day without it running out of juice, but she did have to keep it plugged into her Fire tablet to be able to keep it powered.
As mentioned above, the GREPRO GP1533 comes with a USB A/C cable which is used to charge it. We keep it plugged into the USB A port in the center counsel all the time so we know its always ready to go. Then when we need to charge a phone or tablet, that same cord is used in reverse since the output is a USB-A port, and everything we charge is USB-C. While this is convenient, we were a little disappointed when we first tried to charge 2 devices using both ports and found out that the ports are specific input and output ports. While these types of inflators seem to be a dime a dozen, as even when we were looking we found quite a few on Amazon, but this unit had over 150 reviews and had a 4.5 star rating on Amazon, so we took a chance. If you’re in the market for a portable pump for around the house, or to keep in the car for some peace of mind, we would recommend this unit from GREPRO. We will be sure to update this review should our feelings towards it change, but in the 3+ months we have owned this, we have not been dissapointed in the least.
Another great thing is this inflator / battery pack combo is pretty affordable on Amazon. Here is a link to the product page. We found it was on sale when we bought it a few months ago, and it is on sale now as well, so if you are interested make sure you check back often for a sale.
