The Rev Throw Pro is an arm path throwing trainer by Revolution Throwing. It is designed to help train the arm-path, a dynamic movement in the throwing motion, helping to teach the body the natural throwing motion in a healthy way with dynamic feedback.  As a self contained trainer, it can be used inside or outside, rain or shine without the need of a partner or something to throw against.

When Liz and I started to look for a throwing trainer for our son, we were mainly looking for a trainer that would help ensure he was throwing correctly, and not shortening his arm, or dropping down and throwing side arm. When he started to play travel baseball, in addition to Little League, the length of the season extended, and the number of games and practices each week increased. As a Certified Athletic Trainer, Liz was concerned because he started to complain about some tightness in his elbow.  I had also noticed that he had started to develop the bad habit of dropping his arm down into a sidearm position when throwing. I would try and point it out to him during warmups, and show him videos of his throwing motion to highlight the point, but he continued to frequently drop down when throwing.

After a lot of searching for throwing trainers and drills to correct throwing motion, such as throwing against a fence to force the arm up, I found the Revolution Throwing website and the Rev Throw Pro Arm Trainer. What drew me to this trainer was the fact that it used an actual baseball and allowed for instant feedback. I would joke with our son, that my ideal tool would be something that would smack him on the back of the head when he had the wrong motion, and the Rev Throw Pro comes pretty close to doing that.

The Revolution Throwing website has some great video tutorials on how to use the tool which really help understand how to use the Rev Throw Pro properly. We have been utilizing the Secured Ball method, so far, but we will probably try to shift to the more advanced Rev Ball Grip soon. You can check out their video tutorial for the Secured Ball method on YouTube here, along with some other videos and methods.

This year, after taking 4 months off from throwing, we have introduced the Rev Throw Pro into our preseason workout routine. Our son is using it multiple times a week for 3-5 minutes at a time to not only work on creating the muscle memory related to the proper throwing motion, but also to begin to prepare the arm muscles for the baseball season. As this is our first real trial with the Rev Throw Pro, I’ll be paying close attention to his throwing motion as we look to begin our throwing regimen later this winter.

Based on what I have seen and experienced so far, I would recommend the Rev Throw Pro to others, but make sure to check back here later in the season, as I’ll be sure to provide updates on not only how it holds up, but also on if we see any improvement with his throwing motion.
