Unigear 50L Ski Boot Bag

The Unigear 50L Ski Boot Bag is a great all around ski bag for the weekend skier. We have 3 of these ski bags and absolutely love them. Liz first bought hers at the beginning of last ski season, and when our son outgrew his kids bag this year, we bought him one as well. After struggling with an older tote style boot bag on our first outing this year, I then decided to purchase one for myself.

The bags easily fit everything you need for a day at the mountain. The boots have a separate compartment in the back that helps ensure that everything inside remains dry, even after a full day of skiing. The top compartment is designed to fit an adult sized helmet, and we usually put our gloves and head covers in there as well. Generally we can also fit a bag of various pocket snacks in there as well. The front compartment is a little smaller, but also has a zippered pocket as well as one that closes with a secure feeling flap. Unigear calls the front pocket the clothing compartment, and it is large enough to fit my snow pants. Overall the bag has plenty of room to hold everything that a single person needs on the mountain, including key items such as spare gloves and socks. I do not think there would be enough room to also hold items for other people such as kids etc, but perhaps gear for a small child could be split between 2 adult bags if you don’t include the helmet and boots.

On the outside of the bag, there are straps to hold either skis and poles or a snowboard. The snowboard goes flat across the face of the bag, and skis get strapped onto each side. Liz has used the straps to hold her skis once, but it does make getting the bag on and off kinda clunky, especially by yourself. We generally use the straps to hold our daughter’s skis as we walk through the parking lot and then have her carry our poles. Again, this is a little tricky when Liz or I are by ourselves with her, but when we ski as a family this works out pretty well.

Overall we are very happy with these bags. There may be better bags on the market, but we were able to purchase these for between $40 and $70 dollars on Amazon depending on sales going on at the time. Liz’s bag is the oldest and after a full season and a half of using it 3 times a week plus additional family ski trips, it does not show any signs of wear and tear. The one downside we have found so far is the waterproof material does not allow labels or stickers to adhere to it. We wanted to label our bags with our names but every sticker we have tried has fallen right off, even at room temperature. We are going to look into having them embroidered, or purchasing a fabric patch that we can sew onto the bag, but having a place to label the bag would be an improvement Unigear could make.

On the positive side, the material does a good job of resisting water. We have left our bags outside at the mountain during periods of snow and sleet and have not had an issue with the stuff inside getting wet. I’m sure if it was a continuous rain that it would eventually find its way in, but we don’t typically find ourselves skiing in those conditions anyways, so it hasn’t been a big deal for us.

If you’re in the market for a new ski bag, we would highly recommend this Unigear 50L Ski boot bag. Again we purchased all 3 of ours on Amazon at different times and paid different amounts. Over the course of a month earlier this year we saw this bag on sale for as little as $40 dollars, and other times it had a 10% or $15 coupon. Sometimes it depends on the color so if the color isn’t important to you definitely check pricing on all of them.
